Mission Statement

To empower every student to achieve academic excellence and college and or career success by providing comprehensive, equitable, and personalized support. We strive to create a culture of high expectations and lifelong learning, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to navigate and excel in postsecondary education and the evolving workforce. Through collaborative industry, community and post-secondary partnerships, innovative programs and dedicated guidance from staff, we will ensure that every student is college, career, community ready prepared to compete in a global economy.

Purpose

To ensure that students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary to succeed in postsecondary education and the workforce.

Key objectives include:

1. Academic Preparation: Providing rigorous and relevant curriculum that prepares students for college-level coursework and vocational training.

2. Career Exploration: Offering “Work Based Learning” awareness, exploration, and preparatory opportunities via events, activities and Leadership Development for students to explore various career paths through career counseling, internships, job shadowing, and career and technical education (CTE) programs.

3. Skill Development: Teaching essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and technical competencies that are valuable in both college and career settings. In addition, career pathway and academy courses offer various industry specific “Skill” certifications for students to utilize in the future workforce.

4. Personalized Guidance: Assisting students with personalized academic and career planning, including course selection, college applications, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities.

5. Partnerships: Collaborating with higher education institutions, businesses, and community organizations to provide students with real-world learning experiences and networking opportunities.

6. Equity and Access: Ensuring that all students, regardless of background, have access to resources and support necessary to pursue their postsecondary goals.

7. Assessment and Feedback: District Wide Ongoing Monitoring of student progress (Academics, Attendance, Behavior) and using data to inform instruction, intervention, and program improvement to better prepare students for their future endeavors.

Overall, the District College and Career Department aims to create a seamless transition for students from elementary to middle school, middle school to high school and high school to postsecondary education and careers, fostering lifelong learning and success.

District Wide Leadership Development

Leadership Development Opportunities via Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs) play a vital role in enhancing the leadership, career, and technical skills of students. These organizations provide opportunities for students to develop through participation in activities, competitions, and community service projects.

K-8: We offer an array of opportunities at COJUSD via partnerships with TCOE Science Olympiad, Poetry and Prose, History Day, and Spelling Bee.

Secondary: We provide a wide range of opportunities through partnerships with several organizations, including TCOE (Tulare County Office of Education), Tulare-Kings College and Career Collaborative, College of the Sequoias, the College & Career Expo, and various industry-specific competitions in collaboration with the Tulare County Workforce Investment Board, CSET, and Proteus. Additionally, our partnership with Reedley College & VROP allows our students to participate in events like Tiger ROMP and the STEM Conference.

FFA (Future Farmers of America):

Purpose: Prepares members for leadership and careers in the science, business, and technology of agriculture. FFA promotes agricultural education through hands-on experiences and leadership development.

HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America):

Purpose: Promotes career opportunities in the healthcare industry and enhances the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA focuses on developing leadership and technical skill competencies through a program of motivation, awareness, and recognition.

SkillsUSA

Purpose: Empowers its members to become world-class workers, leaders, and responsible American citizens. SkillsUSA improves the quality of our nation’s future skilled workforce (across all industry sectors) through the development of personal, workplace, and technical skills grounded in academics.
