The Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District believes that investing in and improving teacher quality is one of the most effective ways to raise and sustain high student achievement. To help meet the specific needs of new teachers, the District established the New Teacher Project beginning in the 2003-2004 School Year.

The New Teacher Project serves as an induction program for all non-tenured teachers in the District. The goal of the New Teacher Project is to ensure that new teachers become highly-qualified in order for them to enable all students in the District to meet the Content Standards for California Public Schools, Kindergarten Through Grade Twelve. The key components of the Project include:

  • high-quality professional development that is sustained, intensive, and classroom-focused in order to have a positive and lasting impact on classroom instruction, before and while teaching; and
  • intensive supervision that consists of structured guidance and regular on-going support for teachers provided by Instructional Support Providers.
Teachers participating in the New Teacher Project are better prepared to work with the unique student population in the District and are provided on-going assistance for improving the teaching-learning environments in their classrooms. The New Teacher Project provides the support beginning teachers need to become highly skilled, committed and caring professionals - the teacher leaders of tomorrow.
