INTRADISTRICT AND INTERDISTRICT TRANSFER POLICIES
Top of Page

Intradistrict transfers - are transfers from one school to another within Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District. Applications must be completed and returned to the school site or District Office between March 1 and April 30.  In accordance with law (Board Policy 5116.1), no students currently residing within a school’s attendance area shall be displaced by another student. Once enrolled, a student does not need to reapply for readmission annually. However, a student may be subject to displacement due to excessive enrollment. Parents are responsible to provide transportation for students attending schools on an intradistrict transfer permit.

Existing transfers:
If your child received an intradistrict approval letter for the 2022-2023 school year, there are two options available for you for the 2023-2024 school year:

  • Your student(s) may remain at the school site approved on your original intradistrict request. Transfers are approved for the entirety of their elementary stay (up to 5th grade).

  • Your child may return to his/her school of residence. If your child will be returning to his/her school of residence, please notify the office staff at the school of residence.
New transfers:
Students who currently reside within COJUSD may apply for enrollment in any COJUSD school and will be granted a transfer only if the requested school has space available for additional students.

Interdistrict transfers – are transfers either leaving or coming into Cutler-Orosi Joint Unified School District. Incoming applications will be accepted January 1 – May 1 for the following school year and accepted August 1 – May 1 for the current school year. Incoming applications will not be accepted between May 1 and July 31st. All new incoming interdistrict transfers need to apply for an interdistrict agreement from their district of residence first. If approved, the district of residence will then send the interdistrict agreement to COJUSD. Applications for outgoing interdistrict agreements may be picked up at COJUSD District Office. The Superintendent or designee may approve interdistrict attendance agreements with other districts on a case-by-case basis to meet individual student needs. Parents are responsible to provide transportation for students attending schools on an interdistrict transfer permit.

All intradistrict and interdistrict transfers are subject to review of grades, attendance, and behavior prior to approval. Both agreements may be revoked at any time for unsatisfactory attendance, inappropriate behavior and/or inadequate academic progress. Parents who are not satisfied with the resolution of their request to send their student to another school or to another school district can appeal to the Board of Trustees by filing a letter of appeal with the District Office at 12623 Avenue 416 Orosi, CA 93647.
